Good Times Rolls​​​

1/4 cup each: warm water, sugar
1 stick butter (4 ounces), softened
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon salt
2 to 2-1/2 cups sifted flour
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup milk, heated, cooled to room temperature
Icing glaze recipe follows

1. Place yeast in a large bowl; add warm water, sugar, 2 tablespoons of the butter, shortening and salt Set aside 10 minutes to proof. Mixture will begin to foam or bubble.

2. Stir in about 1/2 cup of flour; whisk in the eggs. Gradually stir in 1/2 cup of milk. Continue with flour and milk until mixture reaches the consistency of sticky cookie dough. Cover with a tea towel. Set in a warm place to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. 

3. Transfer half the dough to an oiled and lightly-floured board or hard surface covered with oiled and floured wax paper. 

4. Knead several times to form a smooth dough. Add more flour as needed. Roll dough into a rectangle; spread with remaining softened butter, leaving a 1/4-inch border. Roll up like a jeflyroll. Cut into 1-inch slices, transferring to a sprayed or buttered baking sheet Cover baking sheet loosely with a tea towel Set aside about 1 hour to rise.

5. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Bake rolls until firm and lightly brown, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven. Set aside 5 minutes. 

6. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Icing

1 cup confectioner's sugar 
About 1 tablespoon orange juice 
Green, purple, gold sugars 

Combine confectioner's sugar and orange juice in a small bowl to reach the consistency of a medium-thick paste. Transfer paste to a pastry or food storage bag. Decorate rolls with white icing, adding  purple coloring to the last part of the white icing if desired for decoration. Dust with colored sugars. Set aside to let icings harden.
